Making the CrossoverFor many youth in Cluj, Romania, the crossover move in basketball has taken on a new meaning. Over 100 boys and girls came to a basketball camp run by YWAM Cluj in partnership with Crossover International. In between basketball drills, the youth heard testimonies and the camp’s theme verse, John 5:24. “…Whoever hears my word and believes Him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.” The youth were introduced to an “eternal crossover” through a relationship with Jesus. Feeding Body and SoulDeep within Guyana’s interior, YWAM pioneered a church and primary school. On one visit, the YWAMers noticed about a dozen of the children were not eating lunch. After asking a few questions, they discovered the children were from poor families who did not have enough food. The YWAMers approached the church leaders. The church agreed to help and began feeding these children twice a week. Now, with government intervention and community involvement, a building has been erected for the feeding program and all 73 kids in the school are fed a nutritious lunch ev... More |
From Buddhist to YWAMerSurapong was a shy Buddhist university freshman when he first came to YWAM’s WonGeneration café in Chiang Mai, Thailand. At first he would hardly answer a simple question, but he wanted to practice his English and make friends. As the YWAMers invested time in him, he warmed up to them and an outreach team from Honolulu that was there. At one point Surapong spent so much time at the café that his mother told him he could be friends with th... More |
Communication Outreach“When I think about how uncomfortable I have often felt doing street outreach, God reminds me that he gave me gifts and talents to bless the world with,” said Rob Darby. He and Lydia Calssen from YWAM Restenäs, Sweden desired to bring a positive view to a nearby city whose reputation is ugly and boring. They planned a photography exhibition. “The amazing thing about this photo project,” said Rob, “was how God used our cameras as tools to open doors into the hearts of people whom we might never speak with otherwise.” They simply walked aro... Disaster Relief WorkPart of our work at ICN includes YWAM Support, a place where people can give to YWAM ministries internationally. Currently we are collecting donations for the relief efforts in Samoa and Indonesia. YWAM has a staff of 20 in Samoa who will work with government relief efforts. The government of Samoa is requesting that people respond with donations to help with rebuilding, as the island does not have the resources to feed and accomodate hundreds of relief workers. In Indonesia, YWAM relief an... More |
A Word of PeaceCurrently YWAM ICN is putting together this year’s Go Manual, an annual publication that lists all the YWAM locations worldwide, the schools they offer, and the languages they speak, as well as stories from around YWAM to inspire young people to get involved in missions. Here is one story of how God is working in peoples’ lives: Kanta has suffered from tuberculosis, and when she recently felt sick again, she was afraid of what would happen to her six children if sh... Real CareMy name is Karim, and I am a farmer’s son from Guinea, West Africa. When I ran away from Qu’ran school, I lived on the streets in Dakar, Senegal. I felt helpless and hopeless. One day I met people who took me to a house where other boys like me had found shelter. I could stay if I promised that I would go to school. I had never learned to read and write, so the choice was made fast. About ... More |
